Logistics and Supply Chain

Georgetown Consulting’s logistics and supply chain experience is vast and comprehensive.  With an average of 30 years of experience in our supply chain organization, Georgetown Consulting is the exact and “best cost” solution for any logistical challenge.  We have significantly improved efficiency and reduced costs for our clients by employing appropriate logistical methods and procedures that have been customized and tailored to meet the needs of our customers. Such improvement initiatives include but are not limited to the following:

Inventory Planning Optimization:
Utilizing appropriate planning methods such as “lean manufacturing”, just in time inventory management, statistical forecasting/modeling or MRP/MRP II, Georgetown Consulting has:

  • Reduced inventory levels
  • Improved order fill rate
  • Reduced our clients’ overall costs

Substantial inventory reductions were realized with past clients’ resulting in:

  • Reduced inventory handling
  • Reduced distribution costs
  • Improved/more accurate demand based forecasting

Georgetown Consulting’s planning models take into account the entire supply chain life cycle or lead-time including procurement and production lead-time, administrative lead-time and distribution lead-time.

Inventory Control:
Through Georgetown Consulting inventory control can be improved and sustained by implementing a number of key warehousing process controls.  Appropriate receiving and inventory issuance processes along with statistically valid cycle counting measures will allow for consistent inventory accuracy and compliance.  Variance investigation and reconciliation is then conducted to identify problem areas and to implement corrective action as needed.

One of Georgetown’s clients received approval from their auditing firm to waive their year end physical inventory, year over year.  This was due to the extremely low inventory variances that were consistently demonstrated through weekly and monthly cycle counting.  Proper warehouse inventory control is also affected by the layout and stocking of essential materials.  Unique and system tracked bin location identifiers allow for better controls and improved warehouse operations.

System Design, User Acceptance Testing and Implementation:
Georgetown Consulting has lead the way with the development of various inventory control, inventory planning and procurement systems.  Our familiarity with SAP, Oracle, JDE One World and other supply chain/enterprise systems positions Georgetown Consulting to address our clients systems needs with a comprehensive and customized service offering.

Georgetown Consulting developed a “home grown”, work flow based system for one client saving more than $2.2M in development and related project costs.  Georgetown Consulting developed following for the multi-billion dollar operation:

  • The system requirements
  • Designed the system functionality
  • Managed the user acceptance testing process
  • Managed the user training process
  • Coordinated the system implementation

The system was developed and implemented on time and was delivered at a fraction of the cost relative to buying a comparable “off the shelf” product.  This client realized significant improvements in administrative lead-time, as purchase order approval went from 20 days to less than 5 days.

Distribution Requirements Planning:
Whether our client’s distribution or transportation needs are “dock to dock”, “door to door” or “point to point”, Georgetown Consulting can develop and oversee implementation of a local, national or global transportation logistics solution.

Georgetown Consulting has provided our clients with wide-ranging transportation services, all of which are customized to meet the unique needs of our client base.  As a result of our programmatic transportation logistics services, one of our clients realized a 13% increase in on time delivery, from 87% on time to 98% on time in less than 9 months.
Georgetown Consulting can address any logistical business need that our clients may require.

  • Operational improvements
  • Improving inventory control
  • Managing suppliers
  • Improving inventory planning
  • Reducing inventory or providing our clients with a turn key global transportation solution
